The traditional approach towards care for disabled children is marked by a clear division between treatment/rehabilitation and school/kindergarten education. The child is brought by a parent to a medical clinic for rehabilitation, then goes to a speech therapy or psychological clinic, and  has lessons at school or, more often, at home. All this takes place separately and often at different locations, and, what is most important, usually without the necessary cooperation between particular specialists.

The modern option, illustrated by the System of Conductive Education, integrates these areas of care in the form of integrated orthofunctioning, education and socialization of the child in a day-care centre. The only indispensable condition for a child`s functioning in the system is that it is possible to communicate with him/her (the child understands instructions).

After school/kindergarten classes (at the centre) the child has an opportunity to satisfy his/her emotional needs in the family environment. Due to the child`s time at the centre the parents have a chance to lead a normal life (they have a job, are relieved of the need to provide constant care, have time for relaxation, etc.)

The system of Conductive Education, developed by the Hungarian doctor and pedagogue Andras Petö,  is a pedagogical solution to the medical problem of complex neuromotor dysfunction (in the areas of communication, self-care and intellect) in children with  early  brain damage.

For the past several decades the system has been used with success in many countries of the world. The system is characterised by integration of rehabilitation, educational and social activities directed at children with early brain damage and their families. It offers a variety of development options and positively influences the quality of life of families bringing up disabled children.

The System of Conductive Education has proved itself in many countries, and it has been successfully adapted to the local conditions in Poland (where it was brought from Western Europe; particularly Belgium and the United Kingdom).
